LCC{ the Concessionaire of the pioneering 30- year PPP Toll Road Concession covering 49.4Km of Lekki-Epe Expressway under a mandate from Lagos State Government{ and the first project of its kind in Nigeria{ today formally launched its new Route Patrol Service for Lekki-Epe Expressway. The brief launch ceremony held at its Falomo site compound was attended by representatives from Lagos State Ministry of Transport{ Lagos State Local Council Development Areas for Eti-Osa{ and various Law Enforcement{ Traffic Management and other Agencies{ including the Nigeria Police{ LASTMA{ LASAMBUS{ Lagos State Fire Prevention Service{ Man O’ War Association of Nigeria{ NURTW{ and the Okada Riders Association{ amongst others
LCC is well-known for its saying “we see more than a road”. “It is not only constructing the road that counts” said LCC’s Managing Director/CEO{ Opuiyo Oforiokuma{ in his address; “it is also about ensuring that we operate and manage the road in a way that delivers real utility to road users{ especially in context of their convenience when using the road; the improved speed and predictability of their journey times; and their safety and security”. The 24-hour{ 7 days a week{ complementary new Route Patrol service{ which kicked-off on 16th October earlier this year{ is tangible evidence of LCC’s commitment to improving the road users’ experience on Lekki-Epe Expressway
Since 16th October{ LCC’s highly motivated and professionally trained team of Route Patrol officers have assisted over 650 motorists with routine problems such as water (overheating){ fuel{ jump-starts{ and tow truck services. 63 of these incidents have been road accidents{ of which 3 have been fatal{ 5 with serious injuries{ 18 with minor injuries{ and 37 being cases where no injuries were sustained. Currently{ LCC Route Patrol covers the 12km stretch of the Expressway between Falomo Bridge Loop intersection on Ozumba Mbadiwe Road and Chevron Roundabout{ although the service will be progressively extended to further sections of the road during 2010. “We currently look out for incidents and respond to them; however{ we will also be introducing a Toll Free Helpline next year so that road users will be able to report incidents directly to our Control Room and alert us” said Opuiyo Oforiokuma. “This is a complementary service that we offer to road users; hence{ our Route Patrol Officers do not accept payment or tips for giving help to motorists in need. It’s all in a day’s job{ and is a service that we are pleased to be able to offer to our road users”. When incidents occur{ LCC’s Route Patrol Control Room reaches out to the relevant Agencies required to attend the scene of the incident{ so that the situation can be dealt with speedily{ effectively and professionally{ and so that the area can be returned to normalcy as soon as possible. This helps traffic flow.
“LCC is highly appreciative of the good collaboration{ support and teamwork that we have and continue to enjoy from working closely together with all the Ministries{ Law Enforcement{ Traffic Management{ Health{ Safety{ Fire Brigade{ Local Authorities{ and other Agencies and organizations operating along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. Without them{ our Route Patrol would not be able to operate as efficiently. The success achieved so far is therefore not LCC’s alone. Full credit must be given to all these Agencies and organizations for their valuable contribution” Mr. Oforiokuma said in closing.
